Video surveillance capabilities

2023-01-31

Monitoring is one of the simplest and most common ways to secure your home or business. It allows you to significantly reduce theft attempts, intrusion and provides evidence in the event of a security incident.

However, company monitoring protects not only against theft, but also allows you to protect yourself against extortion or other events that could cause financial and image losses for the company. By installing cameras above the point of sale, we have a detailed view of each transaction and in case of doubt, we can always check how the purchase went.

Cameras in the warehouse and packing areas, on the other hand, will record what goods have been packed and sent to the customer or what has reached the company during delivery. Of course, there are many more advantages of monitoring, the above results only from the possibility of viewing the image at a given moment, while specialized cameras or system integrations allow for much more – about which later in the article.

CCTV can be divided, in terms of the data transmission technology used, into an analog or digital system. In most cases, uniform systems are used, but it is possible to make a hybrid system that will include both technologies. Currently, these systems do not differ much from each other, offering similar possibilities. It doesn't matter which one we choose. You can read more about the differences between the systems in the text: How to choose a surveillance camera (click to view).

What are the possibilities of monitoring? Of course, they allow you to view a given scene live and search the collected data and find the event you need. However, let's focus on the possibilities that we often do not realize.

Modern high-resolution cameras offer great quality, which in combination with a good lens will allow us to observe even the scenery located at a great distance from the camera installation site. This can be used, for example, if the entrance gate is further from the house. Instead of pulling wires to the gate itself, you can choose the right lens that will allow you to view exactly the place you want to supervise without losing quality.

If we want to have a view of a large area, instead of using several ordinary cameras, a speed dome camera with patrol or manual control may be a better choice. In this case, it can also track the traffic captured in the area, more on that later in the article. Finally, it is worth mentioning fisheye cameras, which have a very wide viewing angle and are perfect for monitoring halls, airports or large-format stores. As you can see, the possibilities of monitoring are very large.

Advanced image analytics opens up new possibilities for users. In home use, it allows you to significantly reduce the number of false alarms by distinguishing animals or the movement of trees from a car or a human silhouette. Thanks to this, only after detecting a real threat, it will trigger an alarm and block the possibility of removing important material. The alarm can be triggered not only when motion is detected, but also, for example, when you enter a designated area or cross a line.

A very important group are counting cameras. They bring us statistics on traffic and transfer them to the system, which, according to the information received, takes appropriate actions. Thanks to them, we can find out how many people visited the store on a given day and at what times the traffic was the highest. By introducing a more advanced system, we can even comprehensively manage queues to the cash registers. The camera then counts the people standing in the queue and, after exceeding the specified limits, calls the next cashier. Heat maps should also be mentioned here. With the use of fisheye cameras covering large spaces, maps can be made, for example, of a store showing which places in the store are most frequently visited. Thanks to this, we can find out how the current display works, or how to arrange products to increase sales. This category also includes  ANPR cameras that can precisely count cars and distinguish between their registration plates.

LPR cameras offer many possibilities. They allow not only to count cars to determine the number of occupied parking spaces, but also to keep various types of statistics (from which regions customers came, for how long they parked). After entering the license plates, it can control the barrier and open it automatically when a car with the registered plate arrives. In the extended version, you can create a system for automatically issuing entry passes or connect cameras with a weighing system, thanks to which you will receive a system for automatic vehicle weighing. It will save license plates, vehicle weight, exact time and recording of the weighing process.

Cash register monitoring integrated with POS (point of sale). Thanks to the integration of the systems, it is possible to apply data from the POS to the cash register view, then we can see what the cashier is doing and the data appearing in the system. This allows you to detect suspicious activities on the part of the cashier or control the circulation of cash. In the event of claims, we are able to fully demonstrate the course of each transaction. The system also automatically flags situations that are considered fraudulent or theft. Thanks to this, it can be easily verified by the operator from time to time, which will allow for a quick reaction and warning the team about suspicious customer practices.

Face detection cameras are used for access control (in this case, however, they are often special, standalone devices) or records of people entering the building. This record allows you to detect employees (measure their working time, attendance) or notify the presence of specific people. These can be banned persons, couriers (if we want to be notified of their arrival to deliver a package) or people we want to grant special access privileges – VIP. People not recorded in the records will be registered as regular customers, thanks to which we will have access to statistics of visits to our company.

Our offer also includes  thermal imaging cameras, which are ideal for detecting terrain violations or, for example, early fire detection. These cameras measure temperature values in the visible area, thanks to which they are great at detecting people and cars even in poor visibility, complete darkness or dense fog. Even an intruder hidden behind vegetation will be detected much faster. By downloading temperature values in the warehouse, they can notify about abnormally high temperatures and trigger an alarm. This will allow you to learn about potential danger much faster and react appropriately. There are also handheld, portable thermal imaging cameras that can be used to carry out various types of audits. They can be used to check the thermal tightness of the house or to check the level of heating of various types of elements – from car parts to electrical systems.

If we need to use the possibilities of such a camera, and we do not want to invest in its purchase, our offer includes the possibility of renting a handheld thermal imaging camera. Ask our customer advisor for details and conditions.

In many industries, the workplace often changes, but this does not mean that monitoring cannot be used in this situation as well. Monitoring of construction sites, mass events, festivals – that's no problem now. In this case, mobile cameras are used that only need power or if there is no power supply – charging once every few days. PTZ cameras are the most commonly used in this solution. In our offer you will surely find a model suitable for your needs.
