Video intercom functions

2023-04-03

Video intercoms are gaining popularity among customers and are an increasingly common choice compared to other access control systems. Thanks to the built-in camera and the use of many other useful functions, they definitely outperform traditional intercoms that only allow voice communication.

The possibility of live view and access to the history of calls with saved photos increase the level of security of the supervised area. Even when we are not at home, it is possible to check who tried to get into the building. However, current video intercoms are not only devices used to open doors. The ability to integrate with the smart home system allows you to remotely open the garage door, activate roller shutters, or manage the lighting of the property. And this is only a small part of the functionality of modern video intercoms. The slightly more advanced ones also have an infrared camera, a motion sensor, an adjustable viewing angle, the "do not disturb" function, the ability to connect CCTV cameras and save data on an SD card.

The new video intercoms use a module known from access control that allows you to open the gate with a dedicated access card, key fob or by verifying fingerprints. (More informations about access control here.). Thanks to the indoor station, we have the ability to monitor who and when entered our premises. All input data is logged and sent directly to the control center.

In the event of an unwelcome visitor, the owner can immediately ask to leave the property, even if he is not at home. Intercoms also have a "do not disturb" function that allows you to silence notifications for a given period of time.

Handling devices using the application is now a standard. The user has remote access and the ability to configure from anywhere. When the indoor station answers the call, the owner receives a corresponding message on the smartphone. This enables him to open doors from anywhere in the world. You can also access the outdoor station's camera from your smartphone for a live view or view video recordings or photos of visitors.

Video intercoms - security and convenience in one!

The basic element of the home video intercom is the indoor station. As a standard, monitors for video intercoms have a receiver, but hands-free stations with touch screens are becoming more and more popular. They allow you to display the image with the field of view of the video intercom. Some video intercoms have the ability to connect multiple monitors depending on the user's needs. Each of them is equipped with a standard door opening button, which is used to release the electric strike installed at the entrance door or wicket. Thanks to this possibility, we can check who is standing in front of the door from each floor of our house. At the indoor station, it is also possible to view live video from the monitoring cameras installed in the house. The latest models even allow you to switch the preview during a call.

More advanced stations are equipped with additional function buttons, such as switching on the lighting in the staircase or external lighting. They can also open other entrances like a gate or garage door. Modern monitors offer more and more additional options, extend the functionality of the video intercom and improve the comfort of its use - they become a combination of monitoring, alarm and access control.

The use of the Hikvision video intercom system with a central station in a block of flats or even in a housing estate opens up new possibilities in communication between tenants and notification management. The connection of blocks into one network makes it possible for tenants to talk to each other using an intercom. From the control station, messages can be sent to tenants - collective for the entire network or for individual apartments. You can also call the concierge station from your apartment or block entrance and report a problem or call for help. From the level of the indoor station, we can also call the elevator, so that it will be waiting for us after we enter.
