Facial recognition in cameras and access control

2023-02-01

The dynamic development of technology has meant that intelligent devices appear on the market of security systems more and more often. The use of artificial intelligence in CCTV devices allows to achieve an even higher level of security. Thanks to the use of deep learning technology in cameras and recorders, they have intelligent analytics options to interpret the recorded image even more precisely.

Image analysis not only increases our security, but also significantly minimizes false positives. In addition, intelligent image analysis allows you to quickly and effectively search for recorded material in terms of specific events. Face recognition technology is one of the possibilities provided by intelligent image analysis. Facial recognition systems are becoming more and more popular thanks to modern technology.

A facial recognition system is a technology that aims to identify and verify a person's face based on a digital image. There are many ways and techniques to recognize faces. Most often, the system analyzes specific facial features and compares them with data within the database. The 3D facial recognition technique uses sensors to capture information about the depth of the image. Thanks to the use of such technology, the system is able to save detailed information about the shape of the face. 3D analysis allows for correct face analysis in various lighting conditions. The system can also identify faces from different viewing angles, including profile view. Systems that use 3D analysis significantly improve the accuracy of facial recognition.

The face recognition system is able to distinguish emotions based on facial expressions, and also searches for additional attributes such as: glasses, mask, beard or mustache. Thanks to this, we can search for a recording on which a given person appears much faster. Face recognition systems can also search for people based on uploaded photos. Thanks to this, searching for material on which a given person appears is very quick and effective. It is also worth paying attention to differences between detection and face recognition. Face detection analytics is only able to recognize the presence of faces in the image. Face detection alone does not allow you to compare face information in any way.

Application of facial recognition analytics

Face recognition technology works quickly and without contact, is highly effective and universal. Facial recognition systems are increasingly used in various areas of operation. The system can be used to pick out a specific person from the crowd. Such a solution can be used, for example, in shops and shopping malls to identify thieves who often appear in the same facility. Such a system is also used at airports, train stations, stadiums and other crowded public places to search for wanted persons or persons who may pose a threat, e.g.: searching for football fans with a stadium ban.

The face recognition system also works perfectly in conjunction with the access control system. Thanks to this solution, we are able, for example, to secure entrances to: offices, apartments, server rooms, government or military buildings. The system administrator is able to block the access of a specific person to a given passage at any time. The access control system that uses facial recognition is much faster and safer than the system in which we use e.g. proximity cards. The use of deep learning technology means that the terminal can distinguish real faces from photos and videos, significantly reducing the risk of identity falsification. The deep learning algorithm makes it possible to register a face in just a second. Compared to traditional methods of identifying people, this solution will significantly speed up the entry of employees to the production hall or office building.

Face detection systems are constantly being improved, which means that the percentage of errors is getting smaller and smaller. Deep learning technology and facial analysis devices are a powerful tool for government, businesses and organizations. More and more often we hear information about situations where a facial analysis system helped identify people posing a threat or wanted persons. These cases confirm that facial recognition technology is already very accurate. Facial recognition systems are also becoming more and more widely available to the average consumer. For some time now, even smartphones have been able to recognize the face, which is used to unlock our screen.
